The U.S. Census Bureau has released new data tables detailing the characteristics of the foreign-born population by generation, based on findings from the 2024 Current Population Survey Annual Social and Economic Supplement (CPS ASEC).
The newly available tables offer a range of social and economic statistics for different generational groups living in the United States. The first generation includes individuals who are foreign-born. The second generation consists of those with at least one foreign-born parent, while the third-and-higher generation refers to people with two U.S.-born parents.
Data in this release covers areas such as employment status, education levels, household income, poverty rates, race, age, and sex for each generational group.
The Current Population Survey is among the oldest and largest surveys conducted in the country. It serves as a primary source for monthly labor force statistics and provides essential information for various studies on the economic and social conditions of Americans.
There was no formal news release issued alongside these new data tables; instead, they were announced through a tip sheet.
