The U.S. Census Bureau has released its monthly Business Formation Statistics (BFS) for December 2025. These statistics provide current data on new business applications and formations across the United States and Puerto Rico.

The BFS is a standard product of the Census Bureau, developed in collaboration with economists from several institutions, including the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, the University of Maryland, and the University of Notre Dame. The dataset includes 12 different series—four tracking business applications and eight focusing on business formations.

Each month, comprehensive BFS data are made available for national, regional, and state levels. Additionally, four monthly business application series specific to Puerto Rico are included in every release. The data are published both as seasonally adjusted and not seasonally adjusted figures.

No news release accompanied this latest update; instead, a tip sheet was provided to inform interested parties about the new data availability.
