Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Music Office have announced that the Seventh Annual Texas Sounds & Cities Conference will take place in Corpus Christi on November 5 and 6. The event is co-hosted by the Texas Music Office, the City of Corpus Christi, Visit Corpus Christi, and the Corpus Christi Film & Music Commission.
Governor Abbott stated, “Texas is where live music lives. Texas’ vibrant music industry supports local job creation while drawing visitors from around the globe, attracting a talented workforce across industries, and supporting business recruitment and expansion efforts throughout the state. I thank the Texas Music Office for helping communities large and small develop creative partnerships and grow new jobs.”
The conference will feature panel discussions focused on development within the Texas music industry. It will also include conversations about potential statewide collaboration among Music Friendly Texas Certified Communities as well as best practices aimed at increasing music tourism and creating local jobs.
All communities certified as Music Friendly Texas are invited to participate in the conference. Details about registration and agenda can be found at texassoundsandcities.com.
The Texas Music Office (TMO), part of the Governor’s Economic Development & Tourism Office, was established in 1990 as the first state-level music office in the United States. TMO has supported economic growth for music businesses, musicians, and communities throughout Texas. In 2016, it launched what remains the only statewide Music Friendly Community Program in the country, which now includes over 80 certified partners across Texas.
