The Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) has received three awards from the Association of Real Estate License Law Officials (ARELLO), an organization that annually recognizes achievements among real estate regulators around the world. TREC was recognized for a video series marking its 75th anniversary, the development of its 2025-2026 Broker Responsibility Course, and an investigation into rental fraud.
The communications team at TREC was honored for creating a video series that documents the agency’s history, key milestones, and influence on real estate regulation in Texas. The series aims to educate viewers about TREC’s role over the past 75 years and remains available as a resource.
TREC also received recognition for its approach to developing the 2025–2026 Broker Responsibility Course. The course, required for brokers and delegated supervisors, was redesigned to address misunderstood aspects of broker responsibility. New features include an activity where students design their own brokerage using fictional character profiles, updated design elements, improved accessibility, relatable case studies, and practical tools intended to help students apply lessons in their daily work. This effort builds on previous course updates that had also been recognized by ARELLO.
Investigator Jenna Hall was named ARELLO Investigator of the Year for her efforts in uncovering a complex rental fraud scheme involving multiple fraudulent lease applications and misconduct affecting three property owners. Her work led to disciplinary action including license revocation and felony indictments. Hall is the second consecutive TREC investigator to win this honor; former Chief Investigator Roy Minton received it in 2024 for his own work on rental fraud cases.
“These awards reflect the incredible dedication of our staff to education, outreach, and enforcement,” said TREC Executive Director Chelsea Buchholtz. “I am proud of these recognitions and the significant work behind them. Together, they highlight how TREC’s mission—protecting consumers of real estate services in Texas—is carried out every day.”
The projects involved contributions from many within TREC including Government and Strategic Communications Director Summer Mandell, Communications Specialist Sierra Pizarro, Deputy Executive Director Vanessa Burgess, Curriculum Developer Jennifer Grube, General Counsel Abby Lee, Enforcement Director Michael Molloy, Education and Examinations Director Jennifer Wheeler as well as staff from the Texas Real Estate Research Center at Texas A&M University.
