Governor Greg Abbott announced that the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) has received federal approval to extend the deadline for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) applications related to severe flooding over the Fourth of July weekend. The new deadline for eligible individuals to apply is September 29, 2025, which provides an additional 25 days.
“Texans who qualify for Disaster Unemployment Assistance will now have until September 29 to apply,” said Governor Abbott. “By extending the Disaster Unemployment Assistance deadline, more hardworking Texans will have the resources and support they need to rebuild. Texas remains resolute in support of these communities as they work to heal and recover.”
The extension applies under a Presidential Disaster Declaration covering Burnet, Kerr, Guadalupe, Kimble, McCulloch, Menard, San Saba, Tom Green, Travis, and Williamson counties. Workers and self-employed individuals in these areas who cannot work due to storm and flood damage may be eligible for DUA benefits.
Affected residents can submit their applications online through Unemployment Benefit Services or by calling TWC at (800) 939-6631. Applications must be submitted by September 29.
DUA is designed for those impacted by disasters who do not qualify for regular unemployment benefits or have exhausted them. Eligibility criteria include being unable to work due to disaster-related physical damage or injury; having been scheduled to begin work in the affected area; losing primary income because of the disaster; becoming a household breadwinner after a death caused by the event; or being unable to reach a job location because travel routes are blocked.
The Texas Division of Emergency Management continues urging Texans with home or business damage from recent storms and flooding to report it using the Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT). This helps emergency officials determine eligibility for federal aid programs like DUA.
