The Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA) program has reached the halfway point of its six-week application window. According to state officials, more than 130,000 student applications have been submitted and over 2,000 schools have registered to participate. The application period began on February 4 and will end on March 17, giving families three more weeks to apply.

Acting Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock commented on the high level of interest in the program. “Texas families are making their voices heard and signing up for school choice in huge, record-breaking numbers,” Hancock said. “With spring break around the corner, we don’t want the March 17 deadline to sneak up on anyone. So, if you’re considering applying, we encourage you to take a few minutes now to complete your application.”

State officials noted that demand was high from the start of enrollment: over 8,000 applications were submitted within the first hour and more than 42,000 were received on opening day.

The TEFA program does not approve applications based on when they are received. All applicants have an equal chance at funding as long as they apply by March 17. Families may also update or edit their submissions until that date.

“TEFA represents a significant investment in expanding educational opportunity and supporting long-term workforce readiness,” added Hancock. “Our team is committed to ensuring students have access to learning environments that prepare them for success.”

Families can find additional information or submit an application before the deadline at EducationFreedom.Texas.Gov.
