The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has launched a new hotline aimed at supporting students experiencing homelessness. The TEHCY Support Hotline offers real-time access to trained experts who can assist parents, caregivers, and educators with immediate technical help, resources, and guidance.

“Families should never have to navigate the challenges of homelessness alone,” said Texas Education Agency Commissioner Mike Morath. “Now, educators, parents and caregivers can pick up the phone and immediately connect with someone who understands their situation and can guide them to the right resources.”

The hotline is part of a broader initiative called TEHCY Support. In addition to the toll-free number, TEHCY Support features a web-based intake form for submitting requests for assistance at any time. Advanced data-tracking tools have also been introduced to improve coordination across Texas.

These enhancements build on the existing TEHCY Regional Network, which partners with 20 Education Service Centers across the state. This network supports more than 1,200 school systems by providing direct support through regional McKinney-Vento Liaisons. These liaisons offer professional development and outreach for students experiencing homelessness.

The TEHCY Web Portal serves as an online resource center offering training materials, compliance guidance, and practical tools for identifying and serving homeless students.

Under the federal McKinney-Vento Act, school systems are required to identify, enroll, and support students experiencing homelessness. The new services from TEA aim to strengthen these efforts by giving families and educators quick access to statewide resources.

For further information or assistance, individuals can call the TEHCY Support Hotline at 1-855-85TEHCY (1-855-858-3429).
