Dr. Brent Kaziny, a pediatric emergency medicine physician and the medical director of emergency management at Texas Children’s Hospital, provided advice on CW 39 about staying safe during the upcoming winter storm.

Kaziny addressed ways families can protect themselves from common winter injuries as cold weather approaches. He shared practical guidance for preventing accidents and maintaining warmth during severe conditions.

“Stay indoors if possible, dress in layers, and make sure to check on elderly neighbors or those who may need extra help,” said Kaziny. He emphasized that preparation is key to avoiding emergencies during harsh weather.

He also discussed the importance of being aware of symptoms related to cold exposure and advised seeking medical attention when necessary. “If you notice numbness, confusion, or shivering that won’t stop, it’s important to get help right away,” he added.

The interview aimed to inform the public about effective strategies for injury prevention and readiness ahead of potentially dangerous winter weather.
