Governor Greg Abbott has announced that the Texas Music Office (TMO) and the City of Brownwood will co-host a Music Friendly Texas Community workshop on October 6. The event will be held both virtually and in person at the Lehnis Railroad Museum and Visitor Center in Brownwood.
“Music is key to the Texas brand,” said Governor Abbott. “I thank the Texas Music Office for helping communities across our great state develop creative partnerships and create new jobs. The Texas music industry accounts for 196,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs and generates over $31.7 billion in annual economic activity statewide. Working alongside local leaders like those in Brownwood, we will ensure Texas communities have the tools needed to succeed.”
Gini Mascorro, TMO Community Relations and Outreach Specialist, will participate in the workshop to explain what it means to become a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community. She will discuss the benefits of certification and answer questions from attendees.
The Music Friendly Texas Certified Community program was launched by TMO in 2016 as the first initiative of its kind nationally. The program aims to help cities grow their music industries by providing resources, networking opportunities, and recognition for their commitment to supporting music professionals. More than 85 cities across Texas have already received this designation.
The upcoming workshop is considered an initial step toward Brownwood’s certification process. Musicians, venue operators, and members of the public are invited to attend either online or at the museum location.
