TDHCA approves $9.8 million in grants to support homelessness programs statewide

At its September 4 meeting, the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) Governing Board approved 88 awards for the 2025 Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) funding cycle. The department will distribute approximately $9.8 million to organizations that help people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

The ESG funds are intended for activities such as street outreach, emergency shelter, rapid re-housing, and homelessness prevention efforts. These can include housing relocation as well as short- and medium-term rental assistance.

Awards will be distributed across several Continuum of Care Regions in Texas. The largest allocation, $4,102,451, will go to organizations in the Texas Balance of State region. Other significant allocations include $1,455,363 for the Houston area and $1,312,422 for Dallas and Irving. Additional regions receiving funds are San Antonio/Bexar County ($833,343), Austin/Travis County ($645,019), Fort Worth/Arlington/Tarrant County ($642,630), El Paso City/El Paso County ($266,935), Waco/McLennan County ($84,864), Amarillo ($124,612), Wichita Falls/Wise/Palo Pinto/Wichita/Archer counties ($121,151), Lubbock/Lubbock County ($92,060), and Bryan/College Station/Brazos Valley ($163,740).
