Taylor Rehmet, a member of the International Association of Machinists (IAM) and a veteran, was recently sworn in as a Texas State Senator. This marks the first time a rank-and-file union member has joined the Texas State Senate.

Rehmet has held multiple leadership roles within the IAM union. He described his move to public office as an extension of his commitment to representing workers. “He explicitly pledges to address critical issues such as stagnant wages, retirement security and public education,” according to statements made during his inauguration.

His appointment is seen by some in the labor movement as a significant step for worker representation in state government.
