Samsung has announced a $1 million donation to support relief and recovery efforts following recent floods in Texas. The company selected the Rebuild Texas Fund, which operates under the OneStar Foundation, to help direct its financial contribution. Of the total amount, $900,000 will be distributed by Rebuild Texas Fund to areas most affected by the flooding.
The remaining funds—up to $100,000—will be allocated through Samsung’s employee giving program. This initiative includes corporate matching for donations directed to three community funds: Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country flood relief fund; Central Texas Community Foundation, which works with Travis and Williamson Counties on local relief efforts via Travis County Cares and Wilco Cares.
“Our hearts are with the communities and families who have been impacted by the catastrophic flooding in Texas,” said Bonyoung Koo, president of Samsung Austin Semiconductor. “As a proud Texas-based company for nearly 30 years, we are deeply committed to supporting our neighbors and helping them recover from these devastating floods.”
Flooding during July caused significant damage across 21 counties in Texas and resulted in loss of life.
“Samsung and Texas have a strong partnership that goes beyond business,” said Chris Bugbee, president and CEO of OneStar Foundation. “Samsung is dedicated to Texans and they’re deeply rooted in our state. With this donation they will help provide much-needed assistance to those who need it most.”
Alongside its financial contributions, Samsung employees volunteered at flood recovery sites as part of its #WeChipIn initiative.
Samsung Austin Semiconductor employs about 4,500 people in Central Texas and has operated there for nearly three decades. The facility is known for manufacturing advanced semiconductor technology used in products ranging from mobile devices to automotive components.
