San Angelo marked the opening of Roosevelt Lofts, a new affordable housing development for residents aged 55 and older. The property, located at 50 North Chadbourne Street, offers 25 income-restricted units and was developed through support from the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA). Roosevelt Lofts received $998,280 in tax credits as part of the 2023 9% Housing Tax Credit program. Over a ten-year period, these credits are valued at approximately $8.4 million.

The building previously operated as the Roosevelt Hotel, originally constructed in 1929 as the Rainbow Hotel and designed by John G. Becker. It is situated two blocks from San Angelo City Hall, within a historically significant area recognized by the Texas Historical Commission.

Residents interested in applying for housing at Roosevelt Lofts can contact the management office at (325) 242-9800. For those seeking affordable housing options elsewhere in Texas, TDHCA provides an online resource called Help for Texans, which allows users to search available properties statewide through its Vacancy Clearinghouse at https://www.tdhca.texas.gov/help-for-texans.
