The Pennsylvania State Council of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) recently held its 2025 conference, where union leaders discussed developments affecting their members and endorsed political candidates supportive of labor rights.

At the event, IAM Chief of Staff Vinny Addeo addressed attendees on the current political environment in Washington, D.C., focusing on how it affects union members. He stressed the importance of defending union rights. “We must continue to fight for our union rights and refuse to be silenced,” said Addeo.

Richie Johnsen, General Vice President for IAM Air Transport Territory, shared that mechanics at American Airlines are now earning over $70 per hour—a record-high compensation level for the sector. David Sullivan, Eastern Territory General Vice President for IAM, spoke about the organization’s efforts to protect worker rights amid opposition from certain groups in Washington.

Delegates at the conference gave strong support to Janelle Stelson, a pro-labor candidate running for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 10th district. The gathering also included presentations on issues such as workplace safety regulations enforced by OSHA, strategies against anti-union campaigns, ongoing litigation involving unions, and local community initiatives.

The meeting concluded with calls to mobilize union members to vote for candidates and Supreme Court judges who support labor interests in upcoming state elections.
