Acting Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock announced on April 8 that $1.1 billion in local sales tax allocations will be distributed to cities, counties, transit systems, and special purpose districts across the state for the month of April. This amount represents a 10.5 percent increase compared to April 2025.
The monthly allocations are based on sales made in February by businesses that report taxes each month. The funds support a range of public services and infrastructure projects managed by local governments.
According to the announcement, cities will receive $679.4 million, which is up 9.3 percent from last year at this time and reflects a year-to-date increase of 3.8 percent. Transit systems are set to get $233.8 million, marking a rise of 10.8 percent from April last year and an overall increase of 4.6 percent so far this year.
Counties will see their allocation grow by 16.4 percent compared to last April, receiving $74 million—a year-to-date growth of 7.6 percent—while special purpose districts are allocated $112.7 million, up by 13.5 percent over last year and showing an annual gain of 8.3 percent.
