IAM Local 914 recently held the Gift of Justice Winter Wonderland Black Tie Gala, an event organized by its Human Rights Committee. The gala aimed to celebrate the holiday season and recognize individuals whose work supports justice, equity, and dignity.
The event brought together union members, their families, community partners, and leaders for an evening focused on reflection and recognition. Attendees were encouraged to donate toys, which were distributed to New Hope Village for Veterans and Parents Engaging Parents. These organizations provide support and resources to veterans, parents, and families in need. Through these donations, nearly 500 children received gifts during the holiday season.
IAM Air Transport Territory General Vice President Richie Johnsen stated, “I am deeply honored to accept this award. Protecting the rights of transportation workers is at the heart of the labor movement—and it is a human rights issue we must never stop fighting for.”
IAM Union International President Brian Bryant said, “Solidarity is the foundation of the labor movement, and this recognition reinforces our commitment to fight for dignity, fairness, and justice for all workers.”
Awards presented at the gala included the Beacon of Solidarity Award to IAM International President Brian Bryant; the Trailblazer Award to General Secretary-Treasurer Dora Cervantes; the Guardian of Transportation Workers Award to Richie Johnsen; and the Champion of Human Rights Award to IAM Human Rights Director Nicole Fears.
Dora Cervantes commented on her recognition: “I accept this award on behalf of the union members whose dedication, grit, and unity continue to break barriers and open doors for generations of workers to come.”
Donyea Hoffman, Chair of IAM Local 914 Human Rights Committee, said: “I am proud to help organize opportunities for our members to gather and give back. Our union stands for more than workers’ rights—we stand for strong, thriving communities, and this event lets us put that commitment into action.”
