The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) Midwest Territory and District 77 marked the 25th year of their annual Guide Dogs of America (GDA) Charity Golf Tournament, known as the “John Massetti Memorial,” in Minnesota this past Sunday.

A total of fifty-six golfers participated in the event, raising over $15,000 for Guide Dogs of America | Tender Loving Canines. The tournament also included more than $5,000 in raffle prizes, supported by donations from sponsors and supporters.

The origins of the tournament date back to its founder, John Massetti, a member of Local 1833. Massetti established the event as an alternative to GDA’s typical motorcycle fundraisers, using his interest in golf to bring union members together for charitable efforts. Though Massetti passed away twenty years ago, IAM District 77 and Local 1833 have continued organizing the tournament annually.

“I want to thank everyone who took time out of their busy schedules to come out and support Guide Dogs of America,” said IAM Midwest Territory General Vice President Sam Cicinelli. “It’s because of the dedication and hard work of our members, our retirees, and our volunteers that this event continues to be such a success.”

“This tournament is more than just a day on the golf course,” said IAM District 77 Directing Business Representative Andrew Peltier. “It’s a powerful way to honor John Massetti’s legacy and make a real difference in the lives of those who rely on Guide Dogs of America. The commitment and generosity of everyone involved is truly inspiring.”

For a quarter century, the John Massetti Memorial Golf Tournament has raised funds for GDA programs that provide guide dogs and service dogs to individuals with needs. Organizers note that participation from union members, retirees, sponsors, and friends remains strong each year.
