Governor Greg Abbott has informed Texans of available safety resources following military actions in the Middle East that could affect American civilians. He advised Americans, especially those in the region, to follow guidance from U.S. embassies and consulates.
Texans who need immediate help can contact the U.S. Department of State at 1-202-501-4444 if calling from outside the United States or 1-888-407-4747 if calling from within the country. The Texas Fusion Center is also available at 1-844-927-0521.
“The safety and well-being of Texans are paramount,” said Governor Abbott. “Now more than ever, Texans must remain vigilant and follow the guidance of U.S. officials as military action continues overseas. The State of Texas is actively coordinating with our federal partners to safeguard Texans abroad and at home from hostile foreign actors.”
The Governor’s Office and state officials recommend several steps for personal safety: monitoring travel advisories, registering with the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), maintaining regular contact with family, avoiding high-risk areas, following instructions from authorities, and preparing for emergencies by keeping important documents accessible.
Governor Abbott’s office will continue working with federal agencies to keep Texans updated as events develop.
According to information on the official website, Governor Abbott has led Texas since his election in 2014 and his administration operates statewide from its main offices in Austin at the State Insurance Building.
