Texas Governor Greg Abbott has renewed the disaster proclamation related to border security for February 2026. The original proclamation was issued on May 31, 2021, under Section 418.014 of the Texas Government Code, in response to what was described as an ongoing and imminent threat from individuals unlawfully crossing the Texas-Mexico border.
The renewed proclamation continues to apply to a large number of counties across Texas, including Aransas, Brewster, Cameron, El Paso, Hidalgo, Maverick, Starr, Webb, and others. It also applies to all state agencies affected by this disaster.
In his statement renewing the order, Governor Abbott said: “WHEREAS, I amended the aforementioned proclamation in a number of subsequent proclamations, including modifying the list of affected counties and therefore declare a state of disaster for those counties and for all state agencies affected by this disaster; and WHEREAS, the certified conditions continue to exist and pose an ongoing and imminent threat of disaster as set forth in the prior proclamations; NOW, THEREFORE…I do hereby renew the aforementioned proclamation and declare a disaster for [the listed counties] and for all state agencies affected by this disaster. All orders, directions, suspensions, and authorizations provided in the Proclamation of May 31, 2021…are in full force and effect.”
Governor Abbott signed the document on February 16 at his office in Austin. Jane Nelson attested as Secretary of State.
