Governor Greg Abbott renewed and amended a disaster proclamation on March 9, extending the declaration related to ongoing fire weather conditions across numerous Texas counties. The proclamation states that increased fire weather conditions continue to pose an imminent threat of widespread or severe damage, injury, or loss of life or property in affected areas.
The renewal underscores the persistent risk posed by fire weather in many parts of Texas. The Texas Division of Emergency Management confirmed that these hazardous conditions remain present in certain counties, prompting continued state action.
“I do hereby amend and renew the aforementioned proclamation and declare a disaster” in over 150 listed counties, Abbott said in the official document. He authorized the use of all available resources from state government and political subdivisions as necessary to address the disaster. The governor also suspended regulatory statutes that could hinder emergency response efforts, with approval from his office.
