Governor Greg Abbott has amended and renewed a disaster proclamation for fire weather conditions in Texas, extending the state of disaster that was first declared on August 10, 2025. The Texas Division of Emergency Management has confirmed that increased fire weather conditions continue to pose a threat in several counties.
The proclamation affects numerous counties across the state, including Andrews, Bexar, El Paso, Hidalgo, Lubbock, Travis, and many others. Governor Abbott stated: “I do hereby amend and renew the aforementioned proclamation and declare a disaster in Andrews, Aransas, Archer, Armstrong, Atascosa… Zapata, and Zavala Counties.”
Under Section 418.017 of the Texas Government Code, the governor authorized the use of all available resources from state government and political subdivisions as necessary to respond to this disaster. Additionally, regulatory statutes or rules that could hinder emergency response may be suspended with written approval from the Office of the Governor. Governor Abbott said: “However, to the extent that the enforcement of any state statute or administrative rule regarding contracting or procurement would impede any state agency’s emergency response that is necessary to protect life or property threatened by this declared disaster, I hereby authorize the suspension of such statutes and rules for the duration of this declared disaster.”
The proclamation also requires copies to be filed with appropriate authorities as per statutory requirements.
