Governor Greg Abbott has reappointed Theresa Chang and Karen Partee to the Texas Commission on the Arts. Their new terms will run until August 31, 2031. The Texas Commission on the Arts works to promote a positive environment for the arts in Texas, aiming to enrich residents’ lives and attract artists to live in the state.
Theresa Chang, based in Houston, is an attorney in Harris County. She previously served as Judge of Harris County Civil Court #2. Chang is involved with several organizations, including the State Bar of Texas, Law Focused Education, Inc., and South Texas College of Law Board of Directors and Executive Committee. She has also been a member of boards such as the University of Houston Board of Regents and Asian American Bar Association of Houston. In addition, she participates in arts-focused groups like the Houston Grand Opera Underwriters and Theater Under the Stars Board of Directors. Chang holds degrees from National Taiwan University, Texas A&M University Kingsville, and South Texas College of Law.
Karen Partee lives in McKinney and serves as executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Texas Bank and Trust Company. She has chaired the Texas Commission on the Arts since January 2024. Partee is certified by the Institute of Certified Bankers and sits on boards for organizations including the American Bankers Association’s School of Bank Marketing and ABA Certified Financial Marketing Professionals Board. Her past roles include national board member for the Texas Tech Alumni Association, president of Junior League of Longview, and advisory positions with The University of Texas at Tyler College of Arts and Sciences Advisory Board and Longview Museum of Fine Arts Advisory Board. Partee graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism.
