Governor Greg Abbott has reappointed Michael H. “Mike” Lewis as the Sabine River Compact Administration Commissioner. Lewis will serve in this role until July 12, 2031. The Commissioners oversee the implementation of the Sabine River Compact, an agreement between Texas, Louisiana, and the United States.

Lewis is currently an investigator with the Newton County District Attorney’s office. He also serves on several local boards and committees, including the Jasper/Newton County Health Board, Newton County Investment Committee, and Newton County Bid Review Committee. Additionally, he is involved with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo as a county committee member and is a member of Rainbow Masonic Lodge #735.

His background includes service in the U.S. Naval Reserves from 1970 to 1971, after which he received an honorable discharge. Lewis holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Sam Houston State University.
