Governor Greg Abbott announced on Mar. 31 the reappointment of Alfonso Charles as Presiding Judge of the Tenth Administrative Judicial Region for a four-year term, effective upon qualification.

The reappointment is significant for judicial leadership in Texas, ensuring continuity in the administration of justice across the region. The role oversees court operations and helps maintain consistency within the judiciary.

Charles currently serves as Judge of the 124th Judicial District Court in Gregg County and has held the position of Presiding Judge since February 2018. He holds board certifications in Criminal Law and Judicial Administration from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and is a member of several professional organizations including the State Bar of Texas and its Litigation, Criminal Justice, and Judicial Sections. He also chairs the Legislative Committee within the Judicial Section.

Beyond his judicial duties, Charles is active in community service as president of See-Saw Children’s Place Board of Directors, a board member at The University of Texas at Tyler Longview University Center Development Council, and a Sunday school teacher at Longview’s First United Methodist Church. His academic background includes degrees from Austin College and Baylor University School of Law.
