Governor Greg Abbott participated in a check presentation event with the Vaqueros del Mar Texas Flood Relief Fund, distributing financial assistance to families in the greater Leander area affected by severe flooding that occurred on July 4th. This marks the third occasion Governor Abbott has attended such an event to provide support to those whose primary residences were damaged or destroyed.
The funds distributed come from the “Strait to the Heart” benefit concert, which took place earlier this summer. The concert was hosted by musician George Strait and Estancia Estates Founder Tom Cusick and raised more than $6 million for flood relief efforts across Texas.
“We know you’ve been challenged in extraordinary ways,” said Governor Abbott. “We want to be able to be a part of the process, not just now but in an ongoing way, to help you respond to those challenges. The financial assistance you leave with today will help you deal with the devastation left behind by the flooding. Our hope is that this check will assist you all in a meaningful way in the rebuilding process.”
Texas Division of Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd joined Governor Abbott at the check presentation.
In addition to these efforts, last month Governor Abbott visited Leander to announce the reopening of Cow Creek bridge, which had been destroyed during the July 4th floods.
Additional photos from today’s event are expected to be made available soon.
