Governor Greg Abbott met with several U.S. Ambassadors at the Governor’s Mansion to discuss strengthening transatlantic security, Texas’ defense manufacturing and innovation sectors, and promoting U.S. industry.

The meeting included U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker, U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands Joseph Popolo, U.S. Ambassador to Poland Tom Rose, and U.S. Ambassador to the Czech Republic Nicholas Merrick.

During their discussions, Governor Abbott outlined Texas’ investments in advanced manufacturing capabilities, emphasizing that these efforts have positioned Texas as a national leader in artificial intelligence, defense innovation, semiconductor production, and the global aerospace and aviation sector. Ambassador Whitaker expressed appreciation for the governor’s contributions: “Thank you for your work to ensure the United States and its allies stand strong against bad actors.” The group agreed on the importance of maintaining partnerships between their countries and Texas to bolster national security.

Energy was also a topic of discussion. The participants highlighted Texas’ energy ecosystem and noted that its comprehensive approach has made it stronger than ever before. Governor Abbott spoke about state initiatives aimed at advancing nuclear energy development, mentioning both the creation of the Texas Advanced Nuclear Energy Office and the Texas Advanced Nuclear Development Fund as ways to support growth in this sector. The ambassadors echoed the value of reliable energy generation for powering industries such as defense manufacturing, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and semiconductors.

The ambassadors’ visit was part of a two-day tour of Texas that included meetings with major manufacturers in various cities.

Governor Abbott leads the executive office for Texas state government with a focus on economic development, job creation, education enhancement, individual liberties protection, parental empowerment in schooling, and border security. Under his leadership since 2014, Texas has led in job growth and record employment levels while advancing initiatives such as Operation Lone Star for border security and child sex trafficking prevention efforts.
