Governor Greg Abbott spoke at the newly established Post Oak Ridge State Park in Lampasas, joining a group of sportsmen and state officials to mark the occasion.
“I want to thank the voters for passing the constitutional amendment that allowed not just the creation of this park, but allows us to be able to create parks like this for many years going forward,” said Governor Abbott. “It’s important that every family in our state and every child in our state is going to have access to more parks like this. This is a great day for the future of Texas and for the future of Texas generations.”
Other attendees included Texas Parks and Wildlife Executive Director David Yoskowitz, Commission Chairman Paul Foster, Senator Charles Perry, Representative Armando Walle, as well as additional state and local officials.
Governor Abbott reflected on his own experiences growing up in East Texas as a Boy Scout, learning about outdoor stewardship. He expressed appreciation to Texas voters and lawmakers for establishing the $1 billion Centennial Parks Fund so families can connect with nature across the state.
The Centennial Parks Fund was created in 2023 through voter approval of Proposition 14. The legislature allocated $1 billion to support new parks and improvements across Texas. Post Oak Ridge State Park is one of three properties acquired using these funds.
Governor Abbott leads the executive office for Texas state government, focusing on economic development, education enhancement, border security efforts, and community initiatives. The office operates out of Austin at the State Insurance Building and has contributed to job growth and record employment levels in Texas according to its official website. Since his election in 2014, Abbott’s administration has also supported initiatives such as Operation Lone Star for border security and efforts against child sex trafficking.
