Governor Greg Abbott has announced the launch of the Texas Regulatory Efficiency Office (TREO), which is now operational within the Office of the Governor. The new office aims to streamline state regulations and reduce unnecessary rules that may hinder economic growth.
“The State of Texas operates at the speed of business, and this new Texas Regulatory Efficiency Office will ensure we continue to foster economic opportunity and protect individual liberty,” said Governor Abbott. “By cutting red tape and rooting out unnecessary regulations, we will make state government more responsive and more efficient to serve the people and job creators of Texas.”
A new website for TREO has been introduced as a central resource for information on efforts to lessen regulatory burdens in Texas. The site includes a Regulation Evaluation Portal where residents can submit feedback or suggestions regarding possible overregulation for TREO’s review.
Jerome Greener was recently appointed as Director of TREO earlier this month.
The creation of TREO follows Senate Bill 14, which Governor Abbott signed into law in April. This legislation tasks TREO with assisting state agencies in identifying and repealing ineffective or outdated rules, evaluating regulatory costs imposed on the public, and providing best-practice guidelines for agencies adopting new regulations, including requirements for cost and employment impact analyses.
