Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Martin Garza and reappointed Faith Johnson and Sichan Siv to the Texas Board of Criminal Justice. Their terms will run until February 1, 2031. The board is responsible for the confinement, supervision, rehabilitation, and reintegration of individuals convicted of felonies in Texas.

Martin Garza, from Mission, is retired and previously served as chief of police and city manager for the City of Mission. He was also city manager for Weslaco and chief of staff for Hidalgo County Precinct 3. Garza currently chairs the Mission Redevelopment Authority/Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone No. 1. He holds an associate degree in Law Enforcement from Laredo College and a bachelor’s degree in Police Administration from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

Faith Johnson, based in Dallas, serves as senior judge of the 363rd Judicial District Court. She is affiliated with several legal organizations including the State Bar of Texas, Texas Bar Foundation, Dallas Bar Association, and J.L. Turner Legal Association. Johnson also holds positions on community boards such as The Potter’s House of Dallas and participates in groups like Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Her academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Education in Community Counseling from Georgia State University along with a Juris Doctor from Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law.

Sichan Siv resides in San Antonio and is a former United States Ambassador to the United Nations as well as an author. His previous roles include Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State. Siv is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Civil Air Patrol, trustee at both the San Antonio Museum of Art and World Affairs Council, and deacon at First Presbyterian Church San Antonio. He earned his Master of International Affairs from Columbia University.

The Office of Texas Governor Greg Abbott has contributed to statewide job growth initiatives while maintaining its primary offices at the State Insurance Building in Austin according to its official website. Governor Abbott has led this office since his election in 2014 according to official records.

“Governor Greg Abbott appointed Martin Garza and reappointed Faith Johnson and Sichan Siv to the Texas Board of Criminal Justice for terms set to expire on February 1, 2031,” stated an announcement regarding these appointments.
