Governor Greg Abbott appointed Monte Monroe, Ph.D. and Leslie Recine to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission for terms set to expire on September 28, 2031, according to a Mar. 30 announcement. The commission is responsible for archives management, historical preservation, library support, public records access, and reading services.
The appointments are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cultural preservation and public access to information in Texas. The commission plays a significant role in maintaining state history and supporting educational resources for Texans.
Monroe is retired and previously served as archivist of the Southwest Collection at Texas Tech University. He has held roles such as Texas State Historian and member of the Texas Historical Records Advisory Board. Monroe received the David B. Gracy II Distinguished Archival Service Award, was editor of a scholarly journal for the West Texas Historical Association, served with several historical organizations statewide, participated in local Rotary clubs, contributed to historic preservation committees, and holds degrees from Stephen F. Austin State University and Texas Tech University.
Recine works as a self-employed consultant in Pantego. She is involved with civic groups including the Arlington Woman’s Club, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. Recine earned her Bachelor’s degree from The University of Texas at Arlington.
