Governor Greg Abbott has appointed John E. Burt as the Jasper County Criminal District Attorney, with a term ending December 31, 2026.
Burt currently serves as the 1st Assistant Criminal District Attorney for Jasper County. His previous experience includes working as an assistant criminal district attorney in Newton County and practicing law privately. He also held administrative roles at Buna Independent School District (ISD), serving both as assistant superintendent and superintendent. Burt is a member of the Texas District and County Attorneys’ Association and previously served as president of the Buna ISD School Board.
His educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Physics and a Master of Education in Administration from Lamar University, along with a Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law.
