Governor Greg Abbott has appointed James H.C. “Jamey” Steen to the Texas Historical Commission. Steen’s term will last until February 1, 2027. The Texas Historical Commission is responsible for leading and coordinating efforts to support projects by county historical commissions, historical societies, agencies, and institutions that are focused on preserving archeological and historical heritage in the state. The commission also serves as a clearinghouse and information center for historical matters.

Steen is a partner at Buckhorn Resources, L.P., based in Houston. He holds life memberships with several organizations including the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Mensa, Texas Southwest Cattle Raisers Association, and the Texas Land & Mineral Owners Association. In addition to being an Eagle Scout, he is a member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas – William Barret Travis Chapter No. 7 and serves as a trustee for the San Jacinto Museum and Battlefield Association. Steen earned his Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia.
