Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Advanced Nuclear Energy Office (TANEO) opened applications on Apr. 1 to expand advanced nuclear construction, strengthen nuclear manufacturing capacity, and support what they describe as America’s nuclear renaissance in Texas.
The initiative is intended to increase energy reliability and create high-wage jobs through investments in advanced nuclear technologies. “To power the Texas of tomorrow, we must boost our state’s advanced nuclear capacity,” said Governor Abbott. “Nuclear energy provides an efficient and reliable energy solution while creating high-wage advanced manufacturing jobs. Through TANEO and the Texas Advanced Nuclear Development Fund, Texas is streamlining the nuclear regulatory environment and making investments to spur a flourishing nuclear energy ecosystem for generations to come.”
House Bill 14, signed by Abbott in June 2025, established TANEO along with the $350 million Texas Advanced Nuclear Development Fund (TANDF). The fund is described as the largest investment of its kind nationally, supporting development of the state’s advanced nuclear industry, supply chain, and related manufacturing capabilities.
Under TANDF guidelines, projects that focus on building advanced reactors or strengthening local manufacturing can apply for two reimbursement programs: Project Development and Supply Chain Reimbursement Program or Advanced Nuclear Construction Reimbursement Program. Applicants are required to submit a notice of intent by April 23 at 5:00 pm CDT with final applications due May 14 at 5:00 pm CDT.
According to the official website, Governor Abbott’s office has contributed to leading job growth in Texas as well as maintaining primary offices at Austin’s State Insurance Building.
