Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Film Commission have announced that a Film Friendly Texas Workshop will take place in Odessa on Thursday, October 16. The event is open to communities across Texas that are interested in creating local jobs and expanding their economies by becoming Film Friendly Texas Certified Communities.
“Texas’ growing media production industry supports local jobs and creates revenue in communities across our great state,” said Governor Abbott. “The Texas Film Commission works with our community partners to market their unique skills, attract new investments in media production, and create high-paying jobs for Texans. I invite all Texas communities to attend this workshop to leverage the advantages of being certified as a Film Friendly Texas Community.”
The workshop is organized by the Texas Film Commission in partnership with Discover Odessa. It will include professional development opportunities and information sessions, such as “How to Become a Film Friendly Texas Certified Community.” Attending one of these workshops is a necessary step for communities seeking certification.
City or county government employees, convention and visitors bureau staff, chamber of commerce representatives, or members of local economic development corporations who plan to act as the designated liaison for media production inquiries are encouraged to participate.
The event will be held at the Holiday Inn Odessa, located at 5275 E 42nd Street. Registration begins at 8:00 AM, with sessions running from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM. More details about registration can be found at https://gov.texas.gov/film/page/fftx_workshops.
Since its launch in 2007, the Film Friendly Texas Certified Community program has grown to include more than 200 certified communities throughout the state. These communities focus on building their media production industries as part of broader efforts to support job creation and economic growth. Additional information about the program is available at https://gov.texas.gov/film/page/fftx_overview.
The Texas Film Commission has been promoting film, television, commercial, animation, visual effects, video game, and extended reality production in the state for over five decades as part of the Governor’s Economic Development & Tourism Office.
