More than 100 tax and accounting professionals attended the annual EY Austin CPE Conference in early December at The Line Hotel. Sponsored by HPI and Hire Solutions, the event focused on key trends affecting finance and accounting, including recent changes in tax policy, the impact of artificial intelligence (AI), financial reporting regulations, and current US economic conditions.

EY partners and guest speakers addressed developments from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and discussed how technology is influencing compliance practices. The conference included sessions on SEC rulemaking, enforcement, comment letter trends, non-GAAP measures, segment reporting, and revenue recognition. These topics highlighted new disclosure requirements and best practices in response to regulatory focus areas.

Taylor Sisson, EY Austin Office Managing Partner, said: “The big takeaway was that proactive engagement with regulators is more important than ever, and I appreciated the great discussion on what that engagement should look like. That’s our goal with this conference: to share ideas and perspectives with leaders in our community and give Austin professionals a valuable opportunity to build relationships.”

Artificial intelligence was another central topic at the conference. EY leaders explained practical uses of AI for finance teams such as supporting reconciliations, improving financial statements, enhancing risk management processes, and audit quality. They also emphasized the importance of governance when integrating AI into business operations.

Sisson noted: “What I appreciate most about our CPE conference is how everyone leaves with action plans already in mind. It’s motivating to see more than a hundred passionate professionals come together to learn how they can strengthen their careers, their businesses and our broader economy.”

He added that the event fostered a sense of community among participants during a period of rapid change for the industry.
