ExxonMobil Brasil, together with partners Equinor, Petrogal Brasil, and PPSA, has started oil production at the Bacalhau field. This marks ExxonMobil’s first upstream output in Brazil, expanding its presence in global deepwater operations.

Dan Ammann, president of ExxonMobil Upstream Company, said, “Bacalhau is a significant milestone for ExxonMobil. It marks our first upstream production in Brazil after more than 110 years doing business in the country. With recoverable reserves exceeding 1 billion barrels and a production capacity of 220,000 barrels per day, Bacalhau is a world-class development and a key investment in our future.”

The Bacalhau field is located 185 kilometers off the Brazilian coast in water depths greater than 2,000 meters. The site uses a floating production, storage, and offloading vessel that features high-pressure gas compression and combined cycle power generation. The vessel is designed to handle up to 220,000 barrels of oil per day.

The project is a collaboration between several companies, with Equinor serving as the operator.
