The U.S. Census Bureau has released updated Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (TIGER)/Line files for 2025, available in Shapefile, Geodatabase, and GeoPackage formats. These updates provide users with tools to create custom maps using data from various sources.
The new release includes Current Suffixed Blocks Geodatabases and GeoPackages. These contain information about blocks from 2020 as well as current block data, with suffixes indicating which blocks have been split since the 2020 census. Users can link this data to the Census Bureau’s current address count listing files.
Geospatial data from the TIGER/Line files covers legal, administrative, and statistical boundaries, along with roads and hydrography features. The geographic boundary information can be linked to upcoming 2025 demographic data on the Census Bureau’s platform at https://data.census.gov/, enabling users to display census tabular data visually on a map.
While TIGER/Line files do not include demographic details themselves, they contain geographic entity codes (GEOIDs) that can be connected to demographic datasets provided by the Census Bureau. For guidance on selecting appropriate products, users are directed to consult the TIGER Data Products Guide page at https://www.census.gov/geographies/mapping-files/time-series/geo/tiger-data.html.
