The U.S. Census Bureau will begin an embargo for the 2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year estimates on September 9, 2025, at 10 a.m. Eastern Time. The embargoed data will be released to the public on September 11.

The ACS collects information about various aspects of life in the United States, including language spoken at home, education levels, commuting patterns, employment status, mortgage and rent details, income levels, poverty rates, and health insurance coverage. According to the Census Bureau, “It is the only source of local estimates for most of the 40-plus topics it covers.”

Embargo subscribers will have access to these statistics starting September 9 at 10 a.m. ET until September 11 at 12:01 a.m. ET. This includes data for all states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, all congressional districts and metropolitan statistical areas, as well as other geographic regions with populations of at least 65,000.

Wire and distribution services are not allowed to distribute news stories or data files before the official public release date and time. The Census Bureau’s embargo policy provides further details on these restrictions. All related data products will be made available to everyone by 10 a.m. ET on September 11 through resources such as data.census.gov and its API.

Those interested in registering for embargo access can do so by visiting https://www.census.gov/newsroom/releases/archives/embargoed_releases.
